Every day this season, our team shares who we believe has the best chance to leave the yard. From one-off plays to core parts of daily stacks, we hope this fun article will help you build winning lineups along the way.
Today’s Picks
James: Salvador Perez – “We return from the All-Star break and Keegan Akin is still getting Major League starts, which is awesome for the everyday DFS player. Akin has allowed at least four earned runs in his last five starts and six home runs over his last 20 innings. Akin ranks in the bottom 10% of the league in HardHit% and Barrel% and is allowing a flyball rate of 32.5%. With a 4-seam fastball that is thrown 58% of the time, it also is being slugged at .500. While Akin is able to generate an above-average amount of spin on his fastball, it hasn’t translated into results. Both sides of the plate are hitting Akin for a .310 average or higher, but six of the nine homers he has allowed have come to righty bats. Salvy Perez has annihilated left-handed pitching this year to the tune of a .356 batting average and .747 (!) slugging.”
Zach: Cody Bellinger – “This is a down year for Bellinger as he is only slugging .303 with four home runs on the season. While those numbers are bad it is only a matter of time before Bellinger breaks out of this slump and I think that starts tonight at Coors Field against Antonio Senzatela. Senzatela actually has some solid numbers at Coors this season thanks to his ground ball rate but I don’t personally think he is as good as his numbers show as he still allows a lot of hard contact (42.8%) which leads to the ball leaving the bat at a high rate of speed (Average Exit Velocity of 90.5 miles per hour). Both of those numbers are a great formula for home runs especially in the thin Denver air.”
Jared: Vladimir Guerrero Jr – “The MLB All Star Game MVP in 2021 has one of the juiciest situations on Friday evening, and I want to take full advantage. The Jays are at home against Jordan Lyles here, who is getting obliterated by RHBs this year. He’s allowed 13 of his 17 HR to come in the split, with righties slugging .540 to go along with a .379 wOBA overall. This matches up extremely well for Vladdy, who has a .354 ISO and 200 wRC+ (1.136 OPS) against RHP, with 23 of his 28 long balls coming in the split. For a guy like Lyles who barely strikes anyone out (5.8 K/9 in the last month), has a 5.00 SIERA in that time and has suddenly become an extra fly ball pitcher – you have to love the situation for Vladdy and the Jays this evening.”
