DraftKings CS:GO Core Plays and Cheat Sheet (IEM) – July 11, 2021

Gambit (GY) v.s. G2 Esports (G2) (10:45 AM EST)

GY have been proving themselves worthy to be at top as of late in this stage and now face a team that they swept before 2-0 in G2. Although both teams are on a two-game win streak GY currently has a higher win-rate of 84.2% compared to G2’s 72.4%. Sh1ro was a significant factor in the win against G2 behind his sniper skills and unfortunately for G2, sh1ro is coming off of a strong game (+24 kill-death differential) against one of the best snipers in the league right now. What makes matters worse for G2 is that they still don’t have a designated sniper player on the team which would help them drastically in the duels against other sniper mains. The collective effort for G2 is what makes them so good like last game for example where every player had a positive kill-death differential which doesn’t happen too often for teams in the league. NiKo led the way in G2’s last matchup with a +17 kill-death differential and continues to deal the second highest amount of damage per round on his team at 85.4 which may result in him doing the majority of the slaying for his team. Hunter- was the next closest to slaying with NiKo in G2’s last win but would need to bring that same momentum into this match because the previous match he had a negative kill-death differential. Also, huNter- has potential to rebound due to him dealing the most damage per round out of anyone on G2 (85.5). Unfortunately, Gambit may still have the upper-hand here in slaying with a team overall K/D of 1.05 versus G2’s 1.03. Moreover, Ax1Le/Hobbit are still maintaining high damage per round (79/80) which is less than NiKo/huNter-, but having a sniper to fall back on may make the slaying way easier.

Virtus.Pro (VP) v.s. BIG (BIG) (10:45 AM EST)

BIG’s was able to make things happen after defeating a team that was glorified after their strong win previously. Also, the BIG win was a 2-0 sweep against their last opponent and a significant reason for that was their main sniper in syrsoN rebounding with a +18 kill-death differential. However, syrsoN will have a respectable sniper again to face off with in this matchup in Jame. The battle may end up being a close one but syrsoN can potentially be the most efficient slayer for his team like last time due to him averaging slightly more kills per round (0.73) while Jame averages 0.72. However, while the snipers end up having their duel it all comes down to who the next person up should be and it may be a bigger contribution form YEKINDAR of VP or XANTARES of BIG.  Both of these players have shown the ability to take over, when necessary, in games and XANTARES averaging close to 100 damage per round which will continue to force other teams not overlook him. Regardless, VP has seemed to begin their ways of fixing what went wrong in the last matchup by defeating two top teams after their last loss against BIG, but the sniper-battle result will be crucial.

Natus Vincere (NATUS) v.s. Astralis (ASTRA) (1:30 PM EST)

NATUS have been playing hungrier as of late and are more than likely tired of being in the top team’s shadow but they have to stay consistent even when their top sniper in s1mple isn’t performing their best and their last win was a statement that it could be done. Also, players from ASTRA may not be feeling comfortable especially with a statement made by one of their players about not having a sniper main to compete with the best and that can possibly haunt them now. Magisk also did not have his best game and will definitely need to rebound especially since he currently contributes the most per round (72.6%) for his ASTRA squad. NATUS also swept this squad earlier this year 2-0 and that work was mainly put in by s1mple which can be scary since ASTRA has not filled in that sniper void since the departure of their previous teammate that solidified that role. Outside of s1mple, electronic has been one of the players to follow-up especially with the second highest K/D (1.14) and can potentially keep that trend going due to the high damage dealt per round (83.2) and likely focus more on s1mple from ASTRA. Fortunately, for NATUS, until ASTRA begins to designate someone to the main sniper role it will be a nightmare for them against top snipers and they happen to be catching one  during a hot-streak which could be bad news.
