LA Thieves v.s. LON Royal Ravens (3:00 PM EST) (-138 LAT)
LAT have been showing promise more than expected and developing chemistry quick as they escaped a really close win previously. Now LAT gets what should be an easier matchup against LDN who they swept 3-0 in their last matchup during Stage 3. Although LAT is missing one of their players from that previous roster, LDN is missing two which should make this rematch interesting. LDN has had a rough start so far to this stage but slaying-wise control seems to be what they’ve performed best on so far. That also happens to be the only gametype LAT has lost so far to start this stage, but their team overall K/D of 0.93 is better than LDN’s 0.83 at the moment so LDN should definitely focus on starting the series strong and capitalizing on the control when it comes. SlasheR has been the most efficient slayer for LAT in this gametype with a 1.27 K/D as John/Drazah both had the highest percentage of kills (26.8%) which can make SlasheR’s anchoring with the assault rifle easier if John/Drazah are performing well on the submachine gun roles. Lucikly for LDN, PaulEhx happens to have a higher K/D than SlasheR at the moment with a 1.35 K/D and his anchoring becomes even more important for LDN because the submachine gun mains do not have the majority of the kills on the gametype like LAT does. Control happens to be the only gametype LDN has slightly more engagements (146.7) versus LAT’s 139.8 so if they can transfer that aggression to other gametypes then maybe they can have a shot at pushing the distance but it’s looking like a tough beat for LDN.
TOR Ultra v.s. MIN ROKKR (4:30 PM EST) (-400 TOR)
MIN have started off this stage on the right foot with a commanding victory but now get a tougher matchup with an arguably top three team in the game in TOR. The last time these teams met TOR was able to win the series 3-1 so it will be interesting to see how MIN responds to that with MajorManiak now compared to Accuracy from the previous match. Control was also TOR’s weakest gametype to end the last Major which MIN can try to take advantage of along with hardpoint which is the only gametype MIN defeated TOR in last time. Attach/Standy have started off this stage so far as the most efficient slayers for MIN with 1.21/1.35 K/D’s which will make entries into gunfights less stressful for the assault rifle mains if they maintain this rate. This is definitely possible because these to submachine gun mains were both the most efficient in the last matchup and what can be key here is the fact MajorManiak is starting off with a positive kill-death differential so far in hardpoint as he assists his teammates from the anchor assault rifle role. On the other hand, the submachine gun mains for TOR did not end the past Major as efficient as MIN has started so far but their flex player in Cammy has been dangerous on the map for other teams with a 1.29 K/D and what makes a big difference for TOR’s assault rifle main in Insight is the fact that he averaged the most hill time for his team in hardpoint (while being the second most efficient slayer) which allows the submachine gun mains to be more loose on the map. In addition, Insight dominated hill time last time for his TOR squad so if MIN is unable to get to him on the map it will definitely be difficult to break TOR especially since they are one of the best teams in the league to make collaborative decisions/killings.
OpTic CHI v.s. NY Subliners (6:00 PM EST) (-120 NYS)
After losing a nail-biter in the very last round on the very last map in their previous matchup NYSL now gets a chance to bounce back but it won’t be easy against a more confident CHI squad who started off the stage with a strong 3-0 sweep against their opponent. However, what does help NYSL is the fact they defeated CHI the last time they met in a series 3-1. The one gametype that NYSL lost in that series which is control happens to be CHI’s strongest showing so far for this stage so things could get interesting here as CHI try to get revenge. CHI also has the advantage of starting off stronger in search and destroy with a 63.6% first-blood rate while NYSL struggled with search and destroy most yesterday (0-2 record) and 15% first-blood rate. NYSL may have gotten their most important player for search and destroy back in Asim who was the only player with a kill-death differential at/above 1 which can’t happen especially against CHI who have been playing more efficient search and destroy as of late. The assault rifle mains in Dashy/FormaL have also started off as the most efficient slayers so far for CHI in the search and destroy gametype with 1.13/1.33 K/D’s and also the highest percentage of kills on the team (31/27.6%) which will cause havoc for Asim especially since they’d more than likely challenge him from a distance so everyone else on NYSL would definitely have to regain and step it back up. As for the control gametype it will definitely be interesting to see how the assault rifle gunfights turn out since they have been the most consistent so far to start in slaying. Mack has played a crucial role at the flex for NYSL with a 1.45 K/D which would drastically help them if maintained and would be the perfect counter for FormaL of CHI who has started off the stage so far with a 1.40 K/D in this game type and the highest percentage of kills for his squad at 32.2%. In the previous matchup, FormaL was the third most efficient slayer in control while Envoy dominated and had the majority of the kills which has potential to happen again since Envoy has started off this stage right behind FormaL in percentage of kills with 26.4%. In conclusion, NYSL may find themselves in another match down to the wire and it may not be best for them to try and reverse sweep their way to a win again like they almost did in their last match because they are playing against a more seasoned team in CHI with way more chemistry compared to their last opponent and CHI may end up closing out the series quicker if they continue to play how they started off this stage so far.
