Core Plays

Kyle Busch – DK: $10,900 – Starting 5th

The Xfinity and Cup Series visits Elkhart Lake Wisconsin for the 45-lap road course race at Road America this weekend. Kyle Busch is once again in the field for his fourth Xfinity race of the year, having finished first in all three prior Xfinity races. Interestingly enough here though, Kyle Busch isn’t overpriced as he is just $10,900, despite being priced $14,500 over his last two Xfinity starts. The sad truth here is Busch is chalk when he is priced at $14,500, so he very easily is going to be chalk when priced normally. The issue here though is his successes on the year have been optimal in every race. Busch has scored over 100 fantasy points in each of his last two Xfinity races and while we aren’t going to touch the 100 fantasy point mark at this race, we still have to love the upside here. With just 45-laps, we aren’t going to have a ton of fast laps or laps-led points, but the ones who can grab them will be the ones to have a slight edge. Busch starts fifth here, but shouldn’t have a ton of issues holding on to the front. If Busch was over-priced as he usually is, he likely wouldn’t be in the writeup here, but the pricing makes him feel almost required. Busch hasn’t been the best road course racer in his career, but he also hasn’t been the worst – one of his Xfinity wins this year was at COTA. The car here is just a step above the competition here – not to mention Busch may be in his best form right now of the last few years.

Landon Cassill – DK: $6,300 – Starting 32nd

Landon Cassill may not be regarded as a great road course racer, but he does get a super far back starting spot here at a very low price. Jade Buford was going to be the prefered value play today, but due to him qualifying 11th I don’t feel the total upside is there anymore as he is really going to need to hold to the front. Cassill is starting 32nd for us today which is the second furthest back he has started this season. While Cassill does not have a top ten finish this season in 16 races, he does have an average finish of 20th and is averaging 24.4 fantasy points per race. Cassill did finish 12th at the Dayton Road Course, 22nd at COTA, and 20th at Mid-Ohio. Cassill offers us easy differential upside on a race that doesn’t feature a ton of laps.
