Every day this season, our team shares who we believe has the best chance to leave the yard. From one-off plays to core parts of daily stacks, we hope this fun article will help you build winning lineups along the way.
Today’s Picks
James: Vladimir Guerrero Jr. – “I don’t think I have actually gone to the Vlad Jr. well yet this year, but I think it is time for me to dip my toes into it. Dean Kremer takes the hill for the Orioles and has allowed 13 homers in just 49.1 innings on the year. Kremer is allowing a Barrel% of 12% and a Launch Angle of 20.6 as 57% of his balls in play are either fly balls or line drives. Kremer leans on a 4-seam fastball 57% of his pitches, and it tops out around 92MPH and is being hit at a .274 average and .513 slugging. Despite him throwing a 4-seamer so much, he has just a 17% PutAway% on the pitch itself. Vlad Jr. is currently slugging fastballs at a .745 clip (lol) and a .404 average. Vlad already took Kremer deep when they met just five days ago, and everything points back in the direction of him having the best shot to do it again on this slate.”
Zach: Jess Winker – “I don’t know who is starting for the Braves tonight but I don’t think it really matters when it comes to Winker as long as they are starting a right-handed pitcher. Winker has destroyed right-handed pitching for the past year-plus. Since the start of last season, Winker is slugging .635 with a .314 ISO against them. When you look at just his numbers at home against righties the number jumps to a .671 slugging percentage and an ISO of .364. What I love the most about Winker and his chances to go deep tonight outside of those elite numbers is also the fact that Winker has not gone deep in a while. Winker has not gone deep since June 6th which shows me that he is due to go deep.”
Jared: Marcus Semien – “Dean Kremer is the perfect guy for us to pick on here tonight, even though he put together a quality start in his last outing against the Jays. Things don’t often turn out so well the next time out, especially if you’re not an overpowering or imposing talent. I’m absolutely loving the way the sabremetrics stack up for opposing hitters against him, as he’s allowing a 20.6 degree launch angle, 93.1 mph exit velocity and continues to be an extreme fly ball pitcher (32% ground ball rate vs 48% fly ball rate). The Blue Jays’ leadoff hitter has the second-best barrel% on the team after Vladdy Jr in the last 2 weeks (14.3% vs 15.8%) and has a HR-friendly launch angle of 10.4 degrees in that time with 5 long balls. He’s piecing together excellent at bats these days, hits against one of the more fly ball oriented pitchers in baseball, and is playing in a great hitter’s park tonight. That’s a recipe for success that I feel very good about investing in tonight.”
