Every day this season, our team shares who we believe has the best chance to leave the yard. From one-off plays to core parts of daily stacks, we hope this fun article will help you build winning lineups along the way.
Today’s Picks
James: Pete Alonso – “Alonso currently ranks in the top 5% of the MLB in Barrel%, top 20% in HardHit%, and top 8% in Average Exit Velocity. While the numbers for Alonso aren’t as great against LHP as you would expect them to be, he is still slugging them at .519 over his career. Patrick Corbin takes the mound for the Nationals today, and he currently is sporting the second-worst WHIP of his career, along with him sitting in the bottom 25-35% of almost all major analytical categories. I’m playing the BvP game a little bit here, as Alonso also has two long balls against Corbin in just 28 at-bats.”
Zach: Vladimir Guerrero Jr – “Matt Harvey has the tall task of facing a talented Blue Jays offense in this one, and he happens to be throwing in one of the most generous hitter’s parks in all of baseball. Harvey’s averaging less than 4 IP per GS over the last month (5 starts) and has given up 5 long balls in that time – a rate of 0.29 HRs per IP. Vladdy crushes RHP to the tune of a .909 OPS, .230 ISO and 142 wRC+ in the split (much stronger than he is vs LHP), and is as good a pick as any to go yard in a great matchup today.”
Jared: Marcus Semien – “After watching Semien turn on a couple inside fastballs to leave the yard yesterday, I really like the potential for another long fly here today. He also isn’t fooled by RHP whatsoever, holding a .202 ISO, 120 wRC+ and solid .811 OPS in the split over the last 3 years (1215 PA). He should be back at the top of the order for Toronto here facing Matt Harvey, who is no stranger to long fly balls. The Jays are in a great spot to do serious damage today, with Vladdy and Semien leading the way for both Zach and I.”
