Every day this season, our team will share who we believe has the best chance to leave the yard. We’re calling it the “Dinger of the Day”. From one-off plays to core parts of daily stacks, we hope this fun article will help you build winning lineups along the way.
Today’s Picks
James: Trey Mancini – “I think in this article I have been trying to play metrics a little too much and maybe need to follow my gut more (while still making sense). Trey Mancini is slugging .638 against left-handed pitching and has six of his 11 home runs against lefties in about 80 less at-bats than he has against RHP. Mancini ranks near the top quarter of the league in Barrel% and HardHit% and currently is averaging the best Barrel% and Launch Angle since his debut stint in 2016. Mets lefty starter David Peterson ranks in the bottom 12% in Barrel% and has allowed nine long balls in just 44 innings on the year. I’ll happily play the splits game here.”
Zach: Sean Murphy – “Jon Duplantier is a trash pitcher who has allowed four home runs in his 8.2 innings of action this season. That puts the whole Athletics team on my radar but I especially like their right-handed hitters as Duplantier has been a reverse splits pitcher in his short career. Duplantier has a career 1.46 HR/9 rate against righties and is allowing them to slug .510. Murphy is my favorite of the A’s right-handed hitters as I really love his barrel rate of 13.2% and his average exit velocity of 90.8 miles-per-hour this season.”
Jared: Peter Alonso – “Bruce Zimmermann is a fly ball pitcher who doesn’t miss many bats and gives up plenty of hard contact. That’s a profile that I like quite a bit. So far in his short career, he’s allowed 11 of his 13 HR to come against RHBs who have a .517 SLG% against him along with a favorable wOBA over .365. That’s a healthy 2.2 HR/9 in the split. In a pretty solid hitter’s park (BAL) and with Alonso starting to show positive signs after his IL stint, I’m going to happily invest here in one of the game’s best RHBs in the raw power department.”
