Every day this season, our team will share who we believe has the best chance to leave the yard. We’re calling it the “Dinger of the Day”. From one-off plays to core parts of daily stacks, we hope this fun article will help you build winning lineups along the way.
Today’s Picks
James: Jesse Winker – “Vince Velasquez has not given up a home run over his last two starts, but that doesn’t change the fact that he five starts prior to that in which he allowed a homer in each (and seven in total). Velasquez ranks in the bottom 10% of the league in both HardHit% and Barrel%, while Jesse Winker ranks in the top 5% in HardHit% and top 20% in Barrel. Winker is currently slugging fastballs at a .788 clip and has 10 of his 13 home runs on that pitch. Velasquez is throwing a 4-seam fastball 50% of the time. Winker is currently slugging right-handed pitching at .704 and averaging .373 – 12 of his 13 home runs have come against righties.”
Zach: Seth Brown – “I love Brown to go deep today as the A’s get to face Logan Gilbert. Gilbert is a top prospect that still has plenty of time to figure out major league hitting but until he does he seems like a pitcher to pick on. Gilbert has allowed two home runs in his 10.2 innings of action, is allowing an averaged exit velocity of 92.7 miles per hour and an average launch angle of 20.9-degrees. Gilbert has struggled the most with lefties which Brown is allowing them to slug .536 in his three starts.”
Jared: Freddie Freeman – “Joe Ross struggles against LHBs (.369 wOBA and .479 SLG for his career) and allows 1.4 HR/9 in the split. He’s also allowed the second most HRs on the year amongst SPs taking the hill today with 9, and tends to be the kind of guy that gets taken deep when he leaves a mistake out over the plate. Freeman is making plenty of hard contact this year (49.3% according to statcast) with a solid 12.5% barrel rate and .411 xwOBA (vs .357 wOBA) – showing there’s even better things coming his way, too. I love the hitting environment, matchup and overall hitter skill for Freeman here today.”
