Destiny 2 Season of the Splicer is live, and it brings with it a plethora of awesome new gear for Guardians to work towards.
A fan-favourite weapon, the Vex Mythoclast was first introduced in the original Destiny. After many years of asking, Bungie has finally brought the weapon forward to Destiny 2. Let’s take a look at how you can get this beauty for yourself.

How to Unlock the Vex Mythoclast in Destiny 2
The Vex Mythoclast is an exotic Fusion Rifle capable of dropping even the toughest of foes in just a few short bursts.
In the original Destiny, acquiring the Vex Mythoclast was a pretty tall order; Players would need to defeat the Atheon, the Raid Boss in the original Vault of Glass raid on Hard Mode, and pray to the RNG gods that the rare weapon would drop.
Thankfully, in Destiny 2, that process has been made somewhat less daunting, if only slightly. You still need to clear the Vault of Glass (and defeat Atheon), but the Vex Mythoclast is awarded for a raid clear, no Hard Mode required.
This means you still might have to run the raid a few times, but the drop rate seems higher than in the original Destiny, and you don’t have to try your hand at Hard mode. Keep at it, and this fancy Fusion Rifle will be yours before too long.

How to Unlock the Vex Mythoclast Catalyst
With the Vex Mythoclast in hand, the next step is to acquire its Catalyst to unlock its true potential. Word of warning, this is where things get tough.
You will need to return to the Vault of Glass and locate five plates, that must be triggered by shooting them with the Vex Mythoclast. They can be a little tricky to find, but once you know what you are looking for they stand out:
- Off to the right side of where you spawn before entering the Vault.
- Located in the secret pathway immediately before the Templar fight.
- Just underneath the path on the way to the Templar fight.
- To the right of the jumping puzzle, on the way to the fight with Atheon.
- To the left of the jumping puzzle, on the way to the fight with Atheon.

You will need to defeat a group of Oracles after shooting each plate, and this part can be tough. The key is to defeat the Oracles in the order that they appeared in, just pay attention to them as they spawn in.
Upon clearing the fifth set, the Catalyst will be yours. Congratulations! Now you can use the Vex Mythoclast in the manner that it was intended. Take it into PVP and ruin a less dedicated player’s day.
