Brentford are pretty popular among fellow English Football League clubs, as they are proof you can climb the ladder, playing nice football, without losing pots of money. Even Queens Park Rangers have to admit their west London rivals are smart operators.
But there are many around the league who privately want Bournemouth to get past them in their Championship play-off semi-final second leg today (Saturday) and then beat whoever progresses from the Barnsley-Swansea City one at Wembley next weekend.
This is not because of any great affection for Bournemouth — far from it, some still remember they broke the Financial Fair Play rules when they were promoted to the Premier League in 2015 — but more because another promotion for them would serve a greater good: scrapping parachute payments.
