Every day this season, our team will share who we believe has the best chance to leave the yard. We’re calling it the “Dinger of the Day”. From one-off plays to core parts of daily stacks, we hope this fun article will help you build winning lineups along the way.
Today’s Picks
James: Javier Baez – “Patrick Corbin has given up 10 home runs in just 36 innings pitched so far on the year and all 10 home runs have come to right-handed hitters. Righties are carrying a .596 slugging against Corbin while Corbin is allowing the highest Barrel% and Launch Angle of his career. Corbin is a guy who averages a 50% groundball rate and 19% flyball rate over his career, but seen his flyball percentage jump to 28%. Add in the fact that he isn’t getting a ton of swings and misses, his strikeout percentage is way down, and his velocity is sitting in the low 90’s, Cub righty bats look pretty appealing today. I bounced between Kris Bryant and Baez here, but with Baez having already taken Corbin deep twice in just 14 at-bats, I will play his confidence here.”
Zach: Pete Alonso – “Tucker Davidson has some really good numbers in the minor leagues but was awful in his debut for the Braves last season. In that first start, Davidson only lasted 1.2 innings while allowing seven runs and a home run. While Davidson is not likely to repeat that bad performance tonight he is still likely to struggle especially with Alonso. Alonso has a career ISO of .303 against left-handed pitching and has some impressive Statcast numbers which I look at the most for finding my home run hitter. This season Alonso has an average exit velocity of 94.8 miles per hour, a barrel rate of 19.3%, and a launch angle of 16.9-degrees. All three of those numbers are career highs for Alonso.”
Jared: Aaron Judge – “Even though he didn’t go deep yesterday against Jordan Lyles, I’m sticking with him one day later vs Mike Foltynewicz. Judge is having an insane year for the Yankees, absolutely tearing the cover off the ball. His 21% barrel% 96.6 mph EV and 12 HR are all excellent – as is his season-long 11.2-degree launch angle. Folty is allowing the more HRs on the slate to opposing batters, and struggles with RHBs just as much as LHBs. The Yankees get another crack at a very homer-prone RHB, and I’m expecting they’ll bounce back here with Judge leading the way.”
