The Nome Beltz High School eSports team won the 2021 Spring Rocket League State Championship on Saturday. NBHS defeated West Valley High School in a comeback series win 4 to 2.
The Nanooks had a daunting start when they lost the first two games of Rocket League in a series of seven against West Valley over the weekend. The competition was live streamed on NBHS’s twitch account.
Nome-Beltz roared back to win games 3, 4, and 5. In game 6, West Valley was able to push overtime, but ultimately NBHS took the win.
The state champ team included three Nanooks: freshmen Calvin Fry and Isaiah Marble, alongside junior Bode Leeper. After being established two years ago, in the fall of 2019, Nome’s esports team has now claimed its first state championship.
