Tuesday night gives us five games on the schedule, so we’ll have a short and sweet Primer tonight! Let’s have a look at some ways to approach line-up construction here on a light night of action!
Who are likely going to be the chalk tonight?
- The Avs top line will be the highest owned stack on the board, checking in at -215 on the road against the Coyotes. MacKinnon and company are in a great spot again as they go up against the same squad again tonight. They were fine last night, with Rantanen lighting the lamp in this one – but overall didn’t contribute enough to change any GPP fortunes. The spot for them remains a great one, and there are far fewer options on the board in as good spots tonight as what we saw on Monday’s busy slate – so expect them to be popular.
- The Flyers have a really juicy match-up on home ice against the Devils, and given the fact that many of their players check in at reasonable price points, I’m expecting them to be very popular tonight, despite the fact that they have only scored six goals over their past four games, so if you think that trend is likely to continue, it does make for an interesting fade. Either way, I’m expecting their top two lines to be quite popular tonight (~20%) with the guys on the top PP unit up front being a little above the 20% mark, while those not on the top man advantage will probabaly be closer to 10-15%. On the back-end, I prefer Provorov vs. Ghost – though both are worth having in your player pool.
Who are a couple other stacks worth considering in good spots tonight?
- Don’t expect rock bottom ownership levels here, but I do think that Florida continues to have the potential to fly under the radar in terms of ownership levels. The spot is a very nice one for them as they take on the Hawks as slight favourites (-135) in a game with a projected total of 6 goals. My favourite way to play FLA is through exposure to their top PP unit, which gives you the key cogs spread across their top six up front. If you do opt for EV stacks of FLA1/FLA2, it does open up some salary room – but I do find that the big guns on Florida tend to do well when used together, and often have nice nights while their linemates aren’t necessarily along for the ride.
- Patrick Kane and Alex Debrincat have been a little quiet of late – but at price points that don’t break the bank, I don’t hate the idea of using them as a moderate at most owned line-up in single entry GPP, or for an overweight position in MME formats. You can use them solo, or sprinkle in Pius Suter as a punt if you want the third piece of the top line.
- DET/NAS is a game that I don’t have too much interest in tonight. I wouldn’t argue with anyone that told me that they wanted to use Larkin, or stack his line for DET, or for those that wanted to use the Forsberg line (or him in isolation for Nashville). I don’t mind Hronek on the back-end for the Wings or Ekholm for the Preds – but all in all, this isn’t a game that I would go nuts on in terms of ownership levels tonight.
This article focuses more on stacking rather than one off plays….if you would like to see my favourite options on an individual level for tonight’s slate, make sure to check out the NHL Cheat Sheet – which will be out later on today!
