Cyberpunk 2077 makes its first appearance in our latest Xbox Gameplay Chart, jumping to 4th place and booting Rocket League out of the top five. The usual culprits still reign supreme in the top three spots, with Modern Warfare at the top and Black Ops Cold War and Fortnite rounding out the next two spots. Just below, GTA V has been pushed down to 5th to make room for Cyberpunk 2077, with Rocket League being knocked down to 6th. Here is the top 40 Xbox Gameplay Chart for the week ending December 13th, 2020.
CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 has been one of the most highly-anticipated games of recent years, so we had been expecting to see it soar into one of the top spots of our gameplay chart. However, fans have been reporting such varying experiences of Cyberpunk 2077 depending on the platform it’s played on that CDPR has now apologised to players, promised to improve the game, and offered help with refunds. Another update is arriving for the game this week, followed by two big patches in early 2021, and CDPR has asked players to “give us a chance” to improve the overall experience. Since Cyberpunk 2077 players are reporting a range of different impressions from the game, it’ll be interesting to see how it fares on the chart next week.
Rocket League has been bumped to 6th, but it never tends to fall too far in the chart. Plus, since its winter-themed Frosty Fest event begins today, it’s likely we’ll see it jump back up as players dive in to try out the three limited-time modes. Forza Horizon 4 has hopped up three places to 10th. The most recent news for the game was that Cyberpunk 2077’s Quadra Turbo-R V-Tech was being made available for free — it’s in the game right now. What with the nine new achievements for the Super7 update and Forza Horizon 4’s inclusion on the recent Xbox Game Awards Sale, it’s no surprise to see it rising up the chart.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, one of the biggest games of 2020, has taken a bit of a hit this week, dropping four places to 14th. Ubisoft has a lot of post-launch content planned for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, including free seasonal content arriving this year, so it’s possible we’ll see Valhalla jump back up the chart. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey remained on the gameplay chart for a long time, and still occasionally drops back in, so we could perhaps expect the same from Valhalla. Further down, Sea of Thieves has hopped up one space to 23rd. The game’s Festival of Giving is live now, so Sea of Thieves could sail back up the chart as more players jump into that.
Control has already taken a tumble, falling seven places to 28th following its addition to Xbox Game Pass. We’ve got a wave of new Xbox Game Pass additions on the way, so it might just be a case of players dropping Control for now to prepare for this week’s new additions. Rounding out the top 40, meanwhile, we have two reappearances: Minecraft (Win 10) and Halo 5: Guardians. Our three disappearances this week are Mortal Kombat 11, Forza Motorsport 7, and Tetris Effect: Connected.
Most of this year’s biggest games are already out by now, but looking ahead, we still have those Xbox Game Pass additions coming up. Being added to Xbox Game Pass tends to give games quite a boost, so we could be looking at a fair few new appearances and reappearances over the next few weeks. In the meantime — how do you think Cyberpunk 2077 will fare in the chart? Let us know in the comments.
