ROCKET LEAGUE EVENT SEEKS PARTICIPANTS: The Jewish Community Center of Youngstown is seeking participants for a Rocket League Esports Tournament at 4 p.m. Friday. Participants will compete with students across the country in a safe environment. JCC tournaments guarantee at least two matches and prizes for winning teams. Register by the day of the event at jccyoungstown.org/esports. Participants can play in the JCC Esports Arena, 505 Gypsy Lane, or virtually. Check in begins 30 minutes before the tournament. The tournament is free for JCC members and $10 for non members. Open play is offered for youth ages 8 and older in the Esports Arena Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. All games are available, but each night has a specific game for organized play. Games are subject to change. Esports staff are on hand to supervise and assist kids with the equipment and game play. Visit jccyoungstown.org/esports for Open Play times and a list of games. Open play is free for JCC members through December. Nonmembers can purchase sessions at jccyoungstown.org/esports.
HOLIDAY PARADE: Girard City Schools will host a holiday parade through the city starting at 1 p.m. today starting at Prospect Elementary School. The parade will feature decorated vehicles of teachers and staff in costume. Families are asked to watch the parade from their homes. The parade will follow the same route as the fall school parade.
DRIVE-THRU NATIVITY: Poland United Methodist Church, 1940 Boardman Poland Road, will host a drive-thru nativity 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. today with live animals and characters on display.
FOOD GIVEAWAY: Cornerhouse Christian Church, 6954 Ridge Road, Hubbard, will host a nonperishable food giveaway noon to 2 p.m. Friday Those needing items are asked to pull into the church’s back parking lot and go to the door with the awning. People are asked to stay in their vehicle and church volunteers will place bags in the car.
BOOK SALE: The Friends of the Hubbard Library will sponsor an ongoing book sale at the library with books,CDs, DVDs and other items available on the shelves on the first floor in front of the staircase and hallway that leads to the library’s meeting room.
REPTILE SHOW: The Northeast Ohio Reptile Show will be 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at the Metroplex Expo Center, 1620 Motor Inn Drive, Liberty.
FOOD BOXES: Nevels Temple Church, 939 Elm St., Youngstown, plans to give away 500 boxes of food at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the church. The boxes will be given away on a first-come, first-served basis until the boxes run out. Each box consists of meat, eggs, milk, cheese, produce, fruit and yogurt.
