This week’s Xbox Gameplay Chart marks the 49th week of Modern Warfare’s reign in the top spot of the chart, with Fortnite refusing to budge from the second spot. It seems hard to remember a time when Modern Warfare wasn’t at number one in our Xbox Gameplay Chart, but before then it was the era of Fortnite, which has been somewhere in the top three for almost the last 100 weeks. Perhaps it’ll take a new game in the next generation to boot either of these chart giants out of their spots. Just below, Rocket League is putting in a good showing. It’s back in the top five after being made free-to-play, causing Minecraft to land at 5th, after jumping over GTA V which refuses to budge from 4th. As usual, there’s a whole lot of reshuffling up and down the chart along with several reappearances. Here is the top 40 Xbox Gameplay Chart for the week ending 27 September 2020.
Destiny 2 has jumped up four spaces after joining Xbox Game Pass last week. Further down, free-to-play fantasy game Spellbreak is falling again, dropping this week to 21st. Just below, Marvel’s Avengers has also slid down the list a little, coming in to land at 22nd. The game’s had a somewhat wobbly road to launch, and even after releasing earlier in September, there were a number of broken Xbox achievements. A few patches followed, including one last week which claimed to fix over 1,000 issues, so perhaps more players will come back to Marvel’s Avengers now that the general experience has been improved.
This week sees two reappearances: No Man’s Sky at 23rd and The Division 2 at 25th. The latter game was part of last weekend’s free-to-play games, which probably explains its sudden boost. No Man’s Sky, meanwhile, is on Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass for PC, and last week’s Update 3.0 Origins added new biomes, weather conditions, flora and fauna, and massive sandworms, all of which must have been a big draw for players to return to the game.
Borderlands 3 is taking a bit of a tumble, dropping seven places to 31st, and perhaps this is just a result of players finishing up with the game’s fourth DLC pack. Just below, Fallout 76 is hanging grimly on at 32nd. The game’s most recent patch added in the One Wasteland re-balancing system, which might be responsible for halting the Fallout 76’s fall down the chart. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 has, meanwhile, fallen quite a bit, coming in to land at 33, despite the game’s rave reviews. Near the bottom, Minecraft Dungeons has dropped 11 places to 36th. The game seemed to have been helped by the combined addition of the Jungle Awakens and Creeping Winter achievements, but as with Borderlands 3, it seems players are now moving on to something else.
This week’s two disappearances are Hotshot Racing and Grounded – Game Preview. We’re almost to the end of September, but looking ahead, we have some big releases in October, including Star Wars: Squadrons, Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, and Watch Dogs: Legion, as well as any October additions to the Xbox Game Pass service.
