Walmart is known for its “Always Low Prices,” but the Canadian supermarket wants to explore the gaming space with Fall Guys. It has asked on social media if it could get its signature vest as a cosmetic in the battle royale. A “very serious mockup” was made for the tweet.
Funnily enough, CD Projekt Red wants to get into the action, too, by putting The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077 cosmetics in the game. The Polish games company told Walmart Canada to “get in line” with a funny Simpsons GIF.
Fall Guys responded to Walmart Canada by retweeting it and said that they were “getting some very interesting offers for collabs at the moment.” A multiplayer game lives and dies by its cosmetics in this day and age, so perhaps this and many other collaborations are in the cards for Fall Guys.
Rocket League, a competitive race-car-soccer title, just made the leap to free-to-play and it features many, many cosmetics to collect and unlock. It’s had brands like Batman v Superman, Hot Wheels, The Witcher, Rick & Morty, and even Back to the Future featured in the game. Maybe Fall Guys, with its addictive and simple gameplay, could follow in its footsteps with these cosmetics.
There’s a reason why companies like Walmart Canada and CD Projekt Red want a piece of the action. Fall Guys is the latest hotness with over 1.5 million players battling it out to be the ultimate platforming king in its first 24 hours. It’s also very accessible, like Rocket League, with it being a free game for PlayStation Plus subscribers.
Currently, Fall Guys has a whopping 264K viewer count on Twitch, beating out huge games like League of Legends and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. It seems like it’s been a smash hit for Mediatonic and Devolver Digital.
We will see if the game has legs as Mediatonic adds new content to the game. With crazy costumes like the proposed Walmart vest or a Geralt costume, it could maintain its visibility within the gaming community.
