Saturday kicks off the Oceania region of the Rocket League Spring Series with four invite teams and four teams from open qualifiers battling it out in a double-elimination bracket. Much like last week, we will likely not have betting odds for any of these matchups, though the quality of teams between the invited teams and the open qualifier teams is pretty wide.
Core Plays
Fury – Amphis, KennySalmon, Scarth (FD only)
I’ll start with this – I am not sure what DraftKings is doing with the pricing of Scarth here as they put him as the second most expensive at a price of $11,000. This isn’t a knock against Scarth’s skill, but Amphis is the best player on this team (and in the Oceania region) and is priced as the seventh highest on the slate at $10,000.
Fury had a strong RLCS season, finishing 5-2 on the year and finishing second after a finals loss to Ground Zero. Fury will start off this bracket against an open qualifier team, The Good The Bad and The Ugly. This team has some sneaky talent on it in Walcott and Misty, but overall this should sway heavily to Fury here with the experience
Amphis finished second for the Golden Striker award with a 1.15 goal per game average and was named the regular season MVP. With the discount on each DraftKings and FanDuel this play easily jumps to the top of my list for both CPTN and position player. KennySalmon gets a pretty suppressed price himself here at $9,400 which propels him to one of my top point per dollar plays on this slate. With the pricing of Scarth on DraftKings I do not believe he is in play at all.
Ground Zero Gaming- Julz, Express, SPYDOGE (GPP only)
Julz and Express come in as two of the more expensive players on this slate and for good reason. Ground Zero won the RLCS region with a 4-0 win over Fury in the Grand Finals. On top of that, Julz won the Golden Striker award by averaging 1.19 goals per game. Express took home an award of his own by winning the Clutch Playmaker award by averaging 0.92 assists per game. It should be noted the third member of Ground Zero, Decka, is now a member of Cringe Society while former Cringe Society member SPYDOGE joined Ground Zero.
SPYDOGE is the cheapest of this threesome on DraftKings at $9,800, though typically in his career he has played more of an anchor role. Though as stated above, this is a new team composition for an already strong Ground Zero squad. The matchup here is probably the best on the board here, as a matchup with Champions Club (who is now Overt), provides one of the more lopsided matchups on the board. Through the first two weeks of the Spring Series, the invited teams have reigned supreme and I don’t see this as the upset to crack the trend.
Other Notes
The other intriguing matchup on this slate is Mindfreak against Renegades. Both of these teams carry the same squad from the RLCS season into this Spring Series and in their one matchup this season Mindfreak took it 3-1 while only allowing three total goals. Mindfreak doesn’t have a key scary scorer on their squad, though they do have some of the better defense in the region. CJCJ and Siki from Renegades come in at steep discounts here while being two of the regions’ higher career scorers. Through each of their respected careers both CJCJ and Siki average over 0.93 goals per game. Renegades are actually a favorite in this matchup though the pricing remains low as DraftKings likely factored in RLCS standings into the overall pricing. I can see Renegades winning this matchup and not having huge games, but because of the discount in pricing and especially Kamii being only $8,700 on FanDuel, all of these players are in play for me. It should be noted that FanDuel priced Mindfreak players well above Renegades players which creates some potential chalk from Renegades.
