Kids’ Corner: ‘Fortnite’ keeps him connected – nwestiowa.com

SHELDON—Seventh-grader Kaden Monroe knows he will not get to participate in track for Sheldon Middle School and it is likely to be the same case for baseball due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The 13-year-old Sheldon boy shared his thoughts in a Q&A with The Mail-Sun as part of Kids’ Corner, a special space Iowa Information is providing for school-age children in N’West Iowa to share their coronavirus experiences.

Q: What was your reaction when you heard that you guys wouldn’t go to school anymore?

A: I was kind of concerned with how we were going to do our schoolwork and if were going to have to make it up and stuff, but I was also kind of hyped up at the same time because no school.

Q: Have you been able to keep in touch with your friends?

A: Oh, yeah. We did Zoom meets and we did a whole bunch of Google Hangouts and FaceTime and yeah.

Q: What have you been doing to keep busy at home?

A: I’ve been going on the trails with my scooter and riding bike and playing “Fortnite” with my friends.

Q: How would you describe this entire experience with the virus and things being closed?

A: I would describe it as a new experience so that if it ever happened again, we are lot more prepared.

Q: Have you felt nervous or scared about anything since all of this started happening?

A: Yeah, I was kind of nervous that I would get it or any of my family members would get it.

Q: What’s kind of helped you come to terms with everything that’s happening?

A: Keeping myself busy and stuff.

Q: Are you hopeful that you’ll be able to go back inside of the school building in the fall?

A: Oh, yeah. Cause I’d rather go to school than do online school cause I’m not learning as much on online school as I would in real school, so I hope I get to go back after the summer.
