Fortnite streamer and pro player, Turner ‘Tfue’ Tenney, has an interesting idea on how to improve chests in Fortnite.
Getting challenged to a 50/50 fight off of spawn can be one of the more frustrating elements of Fortnite – especially for streamers who experience it all of the time.
For those who don’t know, a 50/50 refers to engaging in a fight where winning can feel like a coin-flip. This can be jumping into someone’s box or going for the same chest when dropping from the Battle Bus.
Getting killed in one of these early-game 50/50’s is incredibly annoying – particularly in solo mode. Tfue is no stranger to these fights and has an idea on how to prevent it from happening as much.

It isn’t first-come, first-serve on the chests in Fortnite. You might land and open the chest first, but someone with perfect timing can come from above and steal your weapon.
There are ways to position yourself for the best chance at the weapon, but nothing is a sure thing. Even when you get the weapon, your opponent might escape with the ammo and some shields, putting you in a bad spot if you don’t kill them.
Tfue thinks that he has the solution to this, and it’s relatively simple: make the chest loot go directly into your inventory. First-come, first-serve.
This wouldn’t eliminate 50/50 chest battles, but it would cut down on them. It would also help prevent the pickaxe fights that can often ensue at the beginning of Fortnite matches.
There would probably be some bugs with this system if Epic implemented it. I’m picturing a mid-game scenario where the chest loot replaces what you already have. In general, though, it would be interesting to explore.
Having low ping will also help you grab that early weapon from the chest, which is annoying for those who hover around 30 – as Tfue does. Would this system be better? We can’t tell for sure, but it would be interesting to see in practice.
