Fortnite Sidegrade is a new feature introduced in Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 2. You’ll need to do this as a challenge in TNTina’s Trial, where you simply have to sidegrade an Assault Rifle three times.

Rather than using the Upgrade Stations to level up your weapon, you can use them to “side”grade your weapon to another of the same rarity. Sidegrading costs significantly less than a full upgrade, and is the only way in Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 2 to get the previously vaulted Heavy Assault Rifle.

To get started on the challenge, find an upgrade bench. They’re scattered throughout the map, and there’s one in every SHADOW Safe House as well. You’ll also need an Assault Rifle to sidegrade. To sidegrade your Assault Rifle to the Heavy Assault Rifle, you just need 20 of each material.

The Heavy Assault Rifle does more damage per shot than the normal Assault Rifle, but it has a much slower firing rate. Meowscle’s Peow Peow Rifle is actually a Mythic Variant of this weapon.

TNTina’s Trial is the second out of five challenge sets to unlock special skins of the operatives. The next challenge set will feature Meowscles.
