Fortnite adds ‘addiction’ warning in China – FortniteINTEL

Epic Games has added an ‘addiction’ warning on Chinese servers for those who play too long.

It’s no secret that video games tend to be a bit different in China. Studios often edit their games and add features for the Chinese market to make the game comply with regulations.

PUBG, for instance, changed their in-game deaths to show eliminated players waving goodbye rather than the more realistic kills we see in the Americas and Europe.

Fortnite is no different, and this isn’t the first time that we’ve seen a change between Western and Chinese matches.

Several months ago, it was revealed that the storm works completely differently in China. Instead of depleting your health, the storm has a separate bar that ticks down.

You can come out of the storm with full health as long as you don’t let the bar run out – but this also means that you can’t health through storm damage.

In the v12.10 patch, Epic added an additional warning to Chinese players who play Fortnite for too long. Once you reach your limit, the warning will hit and tell you that it might be time to get off of the game.

The warning mentions “minor accounts,” so the warning likely has something to do with parental controls. Players will see this message until they reach five hours offline.

In general, it’s not a bad idea to limit a child’s gaming time with parental controls. Other devices have similar features that lock or turn off after a certain number of hours, and Fortnite looks to be following suit.

Let’s just hope that Fortnite, at least, allows these players to finish a match before warning them. It would be infuriating to get eliminated because of an addiction warning.
