MANDAN, N.D. – Thursday, Mandan High School’s esports team will play in its first ever regional championship for Rocket League.
This is the first year the school has had an esports team, one of only 14 in the state.
Coaches and players say it was well worth the $20,000 investment.
“That’s one thing that being in this room, being around kids that I’ve not known in the high school before. These kids are talkative, they do have interests, it’s just, they may be different than everybody else in terms of what they like,” said Stephen Kessler, coach.
The Braves will take on Catholic High from Chicago for the championship.
Coach Stephen Kessler says in addition to Rocket League and League of Legends, he hopes to add a Fortnite season in the spring.
